Matthew Bradbury, Fulbright Senior Scholar, Masters of Landscape Architecture (RMIT), Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) (UoA), Diploma of Horticulture (MU), Affiliate NZILA, Graduate NZIA.
Matthew Bradbury is a principal in BMLA (http://www.bmla.co.nz) the practice specialises in the integration of landscape, infrastructure and urban development. Matthew has over twenty years of experience on a wide range of projects, domestic, commercial and civic in New Zealand, PR China, and the EU. Recent projects have seen the application of this research in the design of a number of public spaces in New Zealand. These projects have included the restoration of urban streams, the day lighting of stormwater pipes, the planting of green corridors, and the installation of a number of stormwater treatment devices including, rain gardens, wetlands, detention ponds and swales. A recent project, the Te Ara cycleway has recently been published in, Paths, Tracks and Trails: Designing for Pedestrians and Cyclists, edited by distinguished Italian academics Paolo Ceccon and Laura Zampieri.  http://imagespublishing.com/products/paths-tracks-and-trails-designing-for-pedestrians-and-cyclists. This project was also a finalist in the 2017 Best New Zealand Design Awards. Matthew has also worked on a number of projects in China notably a completion to design a new waterfront for Furong New Town, a new city to be built in Shaoguan Province.
Matthew Bradbury is an Associate Professor in the Landscape Architecture programme in the Construction, Infrastructure and Engineering network, UNITEC, New Zealand and director of the Masters of Landscape Architecture / Architecture by Project programme. http://mlaunitec.blogspot.co.nz.
Matthews recent research has been in the development of a new model for the sustainable design of the contemporary city. In understanding the hydrological landscape that underlies the city a new city master plan can emerge, one that increases green space, encourages biodiversity, makes new public space for citizens and helps to reduce water contamination and flooding. To explore these issues Matthew is currently completing a book, Nature City to be published in China.  The book is a how-to manual for stakeholders and agencies in China to help respond to the Sponge City initiative. The book has four design case studies that illustrate the methodology in New Zealand and China.
Matthew has visited China on a number of occasions to talk about his research to a number of universities and institutes. Most recently he has presented his research work to the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, the North China University of Technology in Beijing, the Beijing Tsinghua Urban Planning and Design Institute, and the Shandong Jianzhu University in Jinan.  Matthew was also invited to give the keynote address at the Sponge City Constructing Technology Forum at the First Shandong Provincial City Construction Expo, Linyi, Shandong province.
